Robert Bell, MD, of Illinois Southwest Orthopedics, is a Fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon. Dr. Bell evaluates and treats injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.
He has undergone extensive training and specializes in nonsurgical and surgical treatment options of the upper extremity, including arthroscopic surgery, injections, nerve decompression and repair, tendon repair surgery and small joint replacement of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, and hand.
After earning his medical degree at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Bell completed an internship in general surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and residency training in orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Bell then went on to complete fellowship specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery through a combined fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia and the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. He worked with Dr. Frank McCue at the University of Virginia. He then finished his fellowship with Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute.
Dr. Bell is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Bell is a member of the American Association of Hand Surgeons (AAHS).
